Peacefully at River Glen Haven Nursing Home, Sutton, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the age of 96 years. Clare Grieve, beloved husband and best friend of Shirley (nee Davie) for 69 years. Much loved uncle of Carolyn (Bill), Paul (Penny), Roy, Gary (Sandi) and Kim. Dear friend of Jill and Maurice. Predeceased by his brother Jack and sister-in-law Ruth. Fondly remembered by his extended family and many friends. Clare was born on a farm in Guelph, Ontario, and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the second world war. He and Shirley moved to Sutton in the late 1940's when they purchased the Village Variety Store. Clare was very active in the community and was involved with Knox United Church, the Kinsmen Club, K40's, the Library Board, Family Life Centre, Cubs and Scouts Association and was a 24 year volunteer at River Glen Nursing Home. In 1980 he was chosen for the first annual Georgina Citizen of the Year award and was honoured to receive the Queen's Silver Jubilee medal in 1977. Resting at the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton, on Sunday, November 23 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Service in Knox United Church, 34 Market Street, Sutton, Monday at 1:30 p.m. Visitation in the church from 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations to Knox United Church or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
