David Jeffery passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2024 at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, sister Mary Lois Cooper, brother Larry (Jacquie), daughters Andrea (Dave Ferris) and Nicole (Todd Gerogiannis), and grandchildren Harry, Adele, Norah, Emily, Quinn and Lincoln.
David was born in Tillsonburg, Ontario to Violet and Earl Jeffery. He grew up in the village of Dereham Centre with its one-room schoolhouse, and his close relationship with his siblings Mary Lois and Larry, and later their spouses, lasted a lifetime. David attended the University of Western Ontario where he met Sharon, his loving and caring spouse for more than 50 years. Together they travelled to Australia and taught elementary school for three years. They returned to Canada in 1975 and settled shortly thereafter in Georgina where they started their family. He took great pride in his ‘girls’, Andrea and Nicole, and their accomplishments. David was a geography, math and special education teacher at Sutton District High School until he retired. He enjoyed curling, camping with extended family and friends, and rooting (often in vain) for all Toronto sports teams. David’s happiest moments were spent with his family and especially his grandchildren, cheering them on at their hockey, soccer, basketball and football games, never missing a birthday, graduation or other special occasion, and quietly revelling in the general chaos they regularly brought to his home. A gentle, generous soul who always put others before himself, he was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
There will be a celebration of David’s life on Wednesday, October 9th from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home in Sutton, Ontario. Should you wish, a donation may be made in David’s name to The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
