Keswick, Ontario

Dean Kevin Birley, affectionately known as "Big Cheese," graced the world with his warm spirit on May 27, 1958, and passed peacefully at home in Keswick on February 10, 2025. He was full of love and laughter, leaving behind a legacy rooted deeply in his devotion to family and friends.

Dean's greatest pride rested in his family, particularly in the relationships he built with his daughters, Elysia and Angela. He was the epitome of a “girl dad,” wholeheartedly cherishing every moment spent with them. Alongside his loving spouse, Kathleen, they created a nurturing environment filled with joy and laughter. The bond they shared was a testament to true partnership, as they navigated life's journey hand in hand, each supporting the other through thick and thin.

To his grandsons, Jacob, Cameron, and Nathan, he was the embodiment of fun and adventure. Dean specifically cherished his time with Jacob, who is autistic. Their scooter rides and playful afternoons at the park were filled with joy and laughter, a reflection of Dean’s big heart and unwavering support. As a papa, he was the coolest—always up for a good time and sharing in the pure delight of every moment.

Dean was not only a devoted family man; he was also known for his incredible sense of humour and the nicknames he would lovingly give to those around him. Such as the nicknames he had for his daughters, Chicken wing and Beetle Brain. He had a knack for brightening up a room with his wit and charm, never failing to remind every one of the importance of joy and connection. His friends knew him as a good friend who stood by them in their times of need.

His passions included music, which enriched his life greatly. He found delight in the sounds of Bob Seger, Leonard Skynyrd, Matchbox Twenty, and Garth Brooks. Dean was also an avid reader, with “Lone Survivor” being one of his favorites. He relished watching shows like “Duck Dynasty,” “Sons of Anarchy,” and “Dr. Pol,” and enjoyed the laughter brought on by movies such as “American Pie,” “National Lampoon’s,” and “Grown Ups.”

Dean leaves behind his beloved spouse Kathleen, his cherished daughters Elysia and Angela (and sons-in-law Anthony and Michael), his sister Kim and his treasured grandsons, Jacob, Cameron and Nathan who will miss the joyful moments spent with their beloved papa. His spirit will forever remain a part of their lives, as they hold onto the countless memories made together.

Though Dean is preceded in death by his father, Ronald Birley, and his mother, Gail Roxborough, his legacy endures in the hearts of those who truly knew him. A fighter to the end, his strength was admired by all who knew him. He was a true champion in every sense, Dean Kevin Birley was a man who understood that family was the greatest gift of all. His love, strength, and humor will be remembered fondly, assuring that his big heart will continue to resonate through the generations he adored so much.
