Peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Donald Wood, beloved husband of the late Audrey May Young. Dear father of Donna Redman (husband, the late Ed Redman) Donald Wood (wife, Barbara), Mary Stevenson (husband, Gerald), Dale McFarlane (husband, Calvin), Eve Leblanc (husband, Gary), Susan Wood and Kathy Giles (husband, Darren). Loving grandfather of Edward and Angela; Matthew; Hilary, Nathan and Jessica; Mindy and Stephen; John; Jennifer and Justin and great grandfather of Luke, Melyssa, Jakob, Isaac, Joshua, Megan, Tanner, Hannah and Scott. Remembered by the families of his siblings, Perry (Sonny), Howard and Kathleen. Funeral Service in the chapel of the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton, Friday at 2:00 p.m. Visitation from 1:00 p.m. Interment, Queensville Cemetery, Queensville.

Tribute from Donald's Family

We remember going to work with Daddy up at the lake. While he worked hard, we got to swim and play. We all learned to drive Daddy's old truck during the haying season. When Daddy raked the leaves in the fall all the children would get into the truck box, and hang on tight to the front rack as the hoist went up. The leaves tumbled out, but we did not! That was great fun! When Dad cultivated the garden we would sit on the hood of his homemade tractor just to be close to him.



Dad would do sit-ups with us on his chest, and we would all end up falling off on the floor--we all had a ball! When we would get hurt Daddy and Mom would kiss the hurt away. Not one of us children was loved more than the other. Mary remembers her Dad saying, "If someone stole you, they would bring you back fast!"



Christmas and New Year's were a family affair. Aunt Kate, Uncle Alvin, all the children, lots of food, presents, and very noisy, happy children! We would go to Dad for advice on how to fix things or to do a new project. Advice was given freely when requested, but Dad left the decision for us to make. Daddy supported us in our hopes and dreams for the future.



Dad and Mom built a new retirement home. We always spent many weekends around a campfire talking and singing, swimming and barbequing. Dad loved our mother very much and was very open showing his affection for her, always holding her hand, and giving her a hug and a kiss now and then. Even with seven children, Mom always knew that she was extremely special.



Spare Ribs, a little Jack Russell, was Dad's loving companion, staying by his side for many years, Spare Ribs sat by him to protect him at the end of his life. Spare Ribs now resides at Mary's house, and she is committed to taking care of him until the close of his life, in accordance with her Dad's wishes.



His main traints were:

1. He loved country music

2. He worked extremely hard

3. He protected his family

4. He loved his wife

5. He instilled a sense of security and safety in his family
