James, Doris May (nee Kingdon)
Canada's Miss War Worker 1942:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris James, affectionately known as "Nana" to her family, on Saturday August 27, 2011 at age 98. Devoted wife of Ivan (1985). Loving mother of Douglas and wife Dale. Cherished grandmother to Chris and his wife Julie, and Brad and his wife Heather. Loving and proud "Great Nana" to Logan, Riley, Reegan and Meghan. Beloved sister-in-law of Eileen Kingdon and her family of Sutton. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Born in Peterborough and predeceased by her parents Sidney and Nelly Kingdon along with Brothers Ernie, Frank & Roy, and Sister Vera. Doris was a devoted employee of T. Eaton Co., Toronto, leaving only during the war years to work in the Scarborough ammunitions plant, where her dedication and hard work earned her the title of Canada's Miss War Worker 1942. Following, Doris and Ivan opened the first restaurant in Pefferlaw, operated Sutton printers for a number of years and in the late sixties, owned and operated Port Bolster Market. Unconditional love for her family, always caring and giving, never asking anything in return, Doris will be cremated, with a celebration of her life at Church of the Nazarene, Pefferlaw on Friday Sept 9th. At 1:00 p.m. Interment at a later date. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice. A special thanks to the staff at River Glen Haven for their care & kindness.
