Burrows, Dr. George McLaughlin (May 7, 1928) – It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Doc George who passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, 23 May, 2015. His beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Joyce (nee Magnan), was at his side, as were his adored children and grandchildren: Heather (Rich) Davies son James (Rachael); Jennifer (Peter Balka) and sons Jeremy and Matthew; Frank (Elizabeth) and sons Benjamin and Luke; and Tania (Andy Perrotti) and daughters Rachel, Sarah, and Isabel. He will be dearly missed by nieces and nephews and his many friends and colleagues who were a treasured presence in his life. Doc George was a graduate of Trinity College, U of T (1954), and practiced medicine in his hometown of Jackson’s Point/Sutton for 59 years – still practicing at the time of his passing. He tended tirelessly to the people of his community, visiting them at home or at his clinic attached to his home. He was awarded Canada’s Family Physician of the Year (2006) which acknowledged his dedication and commitment to his family practice. He served as the first Mayor of Georgina Township for several years throughout the 1970s and was honoured to serve his fellow citizens in this role. His heart was at the cabin on the French River where he spent as many hours as he could with his family at his side, bird-watching, reading, and enjoying the view. The family would like to thank Melissa Cassidy, N.P., with the Georgina Nurse Practitioner Clinic, and Reverend John Coulman for their support at this time. Resting in Knox United Church, 34 Market Street, Sutton, from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral Service in the church, Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment, St. George’s Anglican Church Historic Churchyard Cemetery. Arrangements in care of the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, Sutton, 905-722-3274. In his honour donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy of Canada and World Vision.
