ELIZABETH ANNE ROACH: October 22, 1934 – April 15th, 2018
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend. Liz will be greatly missed by her 6 children Lou-Anne (Mike), Bryan (Jennifer), Linda-Sue (Howard), Wendy-Lee, Patrick (Brenda) and Robin (Edith). Her grandchildren Brent, Jesse, Tasha, Krystle, Dana, Big Tyler, Matthew, Trevor, Little Tyler, Josh, Noel, Erika, Morgan, Melanie, David and Andrew. Great Grandchildren, Nevaeh, Paislee-ann, Ethan, Liam, Fiona, Ellen, Madden, Xander, Jayda, Sloan, Lucy, Kaylee, Abbygail, Anthony, Alyssia and Zachary.
Liz as a teenager was passionate about baseball and judo. She had a life long commitment to Judo, she held a black belt, she was a Sensei at the Ryudokan Judo Club and one of four founders of the World Master Judo Federation, holding tournaments all over the world. She will be sorely missed by the Canadian and International Judo World.
Liz played ball for her fathers travelling team the Accurates, she played ball in many different leagues, playing fastball, softball, hardball and later on umping for several years in Georgina.
Liz loved her baseball and the Blue Jays, she was the 1st women to attend the Blue Jay's Fantasy camp in the 1990's. It was a dream come true to play/train with the Blue Jays in Dunedin. Go Jays go!
Liz was a writer for Judo papers, as well as a Japanese paper, and other newspapers, a publisher and published several sports books over the years.
Liz was also a valued member of the Georgina Historical Society's Board of Directors and a 23 year member of the Georgina Library Board.
Liz was passionate about all that she accomplished in life and the list was long right down to learning to fly a plane, she was humble about recognition for the great accomplishments she made both for women in the workforce and women in sports or women in a mens world.
In 1993 she was listed as a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Founder's Society.
Liz was proud of all 6 of her children and everything they strove for.
A Celebration of Life for Liz will be held at the Sutton Legion Branch 356 East Street, Sutton, Ontario on Sunday May 6th between 2:00P and 5:00PM.
