Mary Schofield, 99, of Newmarket, passed away comfortably at Southlake Hospital on February 28, 2025. She was surrounded by her family. Mary Marguerite (nee Mitchell) was born on January 2nd, 1926 in London, Ontario. She was the daughter of Albert Cripps Mitchell and Marguerite Ridley Ardagh. She is predeceased by her brothers F/S Albert Ardagh Mitchell and P/O Thomas Ridley Mitchell both of the RCAF. Mary grew up in the Swansea-High Park area of Toronto. She attended Howard Public School and Humber Collegiate. Mary married the late John Kelly Robinson and together they raised three children; Laura, Mitchell and Thomas. During this period Mary worked as manager of the exclusive Eaton’s College Street beauty salon. Later she worked in interior design in the South Kingsway area near her home by the Old Mill. It was during this time that Mary met her future husband, Ernest Arthur Schofield. Ernie was a widower with one daughter, Karen. In the mid-seventies Mary purchased a cottage on the south shore of Lake Simcoe at Crescent Beach. This became a permanent home when she and Ernie retired. After many wonderful years they moved to condominium living at The Oaks at Jackson’s Point. Following Ernie’s passing Mary moved to the Renoir, a retirement home in Newmarket. Mary loved life and enjoyed the company of her many friends and acquaintances. She was deeply involved with the Red Barn Theatre and Knox United Church. She loved music and loved singing. She was a dedicated member of the Knox United choir. Right up to her very last days, Mary was extremely outgoing and participated in many of the activities offered at her residence. Mary is survived by her loving children; Karen Good (Dave), Mitch Robinson (Deb) and Tom Robinson, grandchildren; Sam Robinson (Emilie Kitchen), Dylan Robinson, Cassie Robinson (Andrew Willson), Steven Good (Maegan Austin) and Kathleen Good (Alex Graham), great grandchildren; Zoe and Hailey Graham. Mary was predeceased by her daughter Laura Marguerite Robinson. A celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Saturday April 5th, 2025 at Knox United Church in Sutton. Visitation and individual prayer at noon, formal service at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow. Donations to Knox United Church would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
Mary will be deeply missed by all that loved her and knew her.
