Mikhail Nikitsenka, born on April 25, 1949, in Belarus, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at Margaet Bahen Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. As a distinguished figure in economics and global finance, Mikhail dedicated his life to many important roles, including his significant tenure as the deputy director of the Institute of Economics at the Academy of Science in Belarus. He then brought his expertise to the international stage, working with the United Nations before embarking on a prolific career with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Mikhail was not only talented in his professional life but also possessed a myriad of artistic gifts. He was a passionate member of the Society of York Region Artists (SOYRA), where he expressed his creativity through art. A true renaissance man, he found beauty in each moment and had a deep appreciation for nature, speaking fondly of birch trees and the secret magic of pines. His heart resonated with the simplicity of life, and he sought wonder in the world around him.
Those who knew Mikhail will remember him for the strength of his memories, as each story he shared was filled with wonder, passion, and warmth. His wisdom and kindness created lasting impressions on all who crossed his path. An avid fisherman and skier, Mikhail embraced life with a spirit of adventure, skillfully balancing his professional and personal passions.
Mikhail is survived by his loving wife, Maria Nikitsenka, and his children: sons Dzmitry, daughters Aliona and Dasha, as well as stepson Artiom. He was a cherished grandfather to Vlad, Alex, Christina, Angelina, and Daniela.
He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Alexandra, and his brother Vasiliy.
A funeral service to honor Mikhail's life will be held on December 19, 2024, at Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home in Sutton, Ontario, beginning at 12:00 PM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Briar Hill Cemetery in Georgina, Ontario, at 1:00 PM.
Mikhail Nikitsenka will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness will forever be cherished.
