DePiero, Nettie Anastasia (nee Krawchuk)
Peacefully at North York General Hospital in Toronto on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the age of 93 years. Dear mother of Derek and sister of Blanch Bula, Morris and Merdo Krawchuk. Also survived by many family members and friends from Fort Frances, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Pickering, Sutton West, British Columbia and Florida. Predeceased by her beloved husband Louis DePiero, sister Elsie Tostowaryk and brother Davie Krawchuk.
Nettie was born in Rainy River in northwestern Ontario and grew up in Fort Frances. During World War II, she served in the shipyards in Victoria, B.C. and a munitions factory in Ajax, where her husband Louis was stationed. They later settled in Toronto, and became proprietors of B&B Fish and Chips on Queen Street East. More than 20 years later they moved to their country home in Sutton, which became their permanent residence. Nettie embraced her home and community in Sutton, where she supported various charities and worked with Elections Canada. A true lover of nature, she remained on the farm past her 90th year, and loved to take long walks with her dogs & work in her garden. Nettie treasured her family and many friends. She was a vibrant woman who loved cooking, travel, music and dancing. Sadly, due to ailing health, she was brought to North York Senior Health Centre in Toronto, where she spent the last year of her life. Many thanks to her loving niece Darlene Kost, and dear family friend Reg Hunt for their care-giving efforts in her final days.
Resting at the Forrest and Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 a.m Saturday until the time of the Funeral Service in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to celebrate Nettie's life. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
