ELGIE, Robert Goldwin, C.M., B.A., L.L.B.,Q. C., M.D., F.R. C.S.(C) L.L.D. (hon.)
Born in Toronto, January 22, 1929; died peacefully and painlessly on April 3, 2013. He was a man of grace and stature dedicated to helping others and a mentor and role model to all who were fortunate enough to have known him. In the many roles he undertook throughout his life Bob always displayed respect and courtesy towards those with whom he interacted, whether as a lawyer, neurosurgeon, MPP and Cabinet Minister, as well as Chair of many organizations including the Workers Compensation Boards in two provinces (Ontario and Nova Scotia), Professor of Medicine, Queen's and Professor of Law, Dalhousie, the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board, the Ontario Greenbelt Advisory Committee and the Ontario Press Council. For his lifetime of achievement he was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2003. Bob was a devoted husband to Nancy for 56 years and loving father to their five children and thirteen grandchildren.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, 230 St. Clair Ave. West, Toronto, on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11 am, followed by luncheon during which it is hoped that those who loved and admired him will share their favourite memories of times together.
