Wayne William Kearns
(Hockey Legend, Gut-Busting Comedian,
Affectionate Husband, Unflappable Dad, and Beloved Brother)
Wayne passed away the morning of Wednesday June 10th, 2015 with his bride of 45 years, Marlene, and his children Shari (Trevor) and Darren (Tracy) giving him kisses and well wishes to send him on his journey to the other side. We are sure he was met at the pearly gates by his parents, Florence and William (Babe and Bud) Kearns, Brother-in-law Terry Heavens, and friends and other family members. Papa hated to leave behind his grandchildren Mack Core, and Liam and Fergus Kearns. There is great appreciation for the new Guardian Angel assigned to those 3 boys. Wayne was just getting to know his new step-grandchildren Megan and Kent Dunscombe. Anyone reading this should rest-assured that there is a good chance the Leafs will take the cup next year. There is a big fan and advocate up there- and his patience was getting thin. He often showed the blue and white how it should be done on the ice, along with some very young-at-heart hockey buddies who are too numerous to name. They should know that their camaraderie on the ice and the beer in the locker room brought Wayne a large part of his joy in this world. The lucky folks who got to know Wayne the longest were his siblings- Ron Kearns, Diane Heavens (Mike Davies), Shar Newman (Winston), Gail Kearns, Bill Kearns. The shenanigans they got up to, well in their "grown-up" years will keep us in stories and laughter until the end of time. Their shared love was beautiful to watch. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Debra and Glen Hazen were there for most of his years, and lost "in-law" status somewhere in the '80's. Numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins will miss being "Wayne's Favourite". The loss of this sweet, honest, hilarious, genuine, man will leave a hole in the heart and home of his wife. He hoped to leave enough love that in time she may smile and fully live life again. It will be interesting to see what she will do, finally having control of the TV remote. Biggest Annoyance- only getting one old age pension cheque from the government after turning 65 on April 4th, before they got to stop. Biggest Love- Wife and family. Favourite Possession- 1935 Chevy affectionately named Miss Vicky. Biggest Loss- ours. Resting at the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 20916 Dalton Road, Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Briar Hill Cemetery, Sutton. Memorial Donation to Southlake Regional Health Centre Cancer Clinic would be appreciated by the family.
