Etherington, Buchan
Peacefully, at his home, in the presence and comfort of his family on Sunday, February 19th , 2023, Buchan Etherington, in his 90th year. Beloved husband, friend and companion of Helen (Spence, nee Quinn). A family friend for many years, Helen first supported Buchan following the death of his beloved wife Eileen in 2010. Loving Dad to Mark and his wife Kelly of Rockwood and Bruce and his wife Joan of Sutton. Loving Papa to Andrea (Jordan), Kyla (Evan), Nicole (Jake), Victoria (Russell) and Stephanie (Colin) and great grandchildren Jackson, Cara, Jedson, Jack & Hadley. Survived by his brother Andrew Etherington in London, England. Sadly, missed by Debbie. Fondly remembered by his extended family; Cathy (Brad) Smockum, David (Helen) Spence & their families. Buchan and Eileen emigrated from Scotland in 1967 with their young family where Canada soon became their adopted home. They settled in Sutton, successfully operating the family business, Etherington Insurance Brokers. His commitment to exceedingly high service standards was well known in the area. Buchan spent countless summer hours maintaining his beautiful gardens, flowers and bird feeders then enjoyed the time spent with family and friends overlooking them. For many years extended vacations to his favorite island, Barbados, became the winter highlight. He would bask in the warm weather with close friends and family while allowing him to celebrate his Scottish heritage. Friends are invited to call at the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton, on Tuesday, February 21st from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Buchan's life will be held in Knox United Church, 34 Market Street, Sutton, Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. with visitation in the church from 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation, Newmarket, would be appreciated.
