-Forrest & Taylor Team
The story of the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home begins in the late 1880s. It was called the Taylor Funeral Home, and was started by James Taylor, the first in a line of Taylor's to run this family business. An official date when the Taylor Funeral Home began is not available; however, the first documented funeral service took place on December 17th, 1889. When James retired his son, Harvey, took over running the Taylor Funeral Home. In 1962, Harvey's son, Robert, took over this family business. For over a century, the Taylor Funeral Home was run by a member of the Taylor Family.
In 1992, the Taylor Funeral Home posted a position for a funeral director, and Greg Forrest took this position. In 2001, the history of the Taylor Funeral Home was forever changed when Greg, and his wife Carole, purchased half of the business. This resulted in the change of name from the Taylor Funeral Home, to the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home. When Robert Taylor retired in 2008, Greg and Carole purchased the remainder of the business, and became the sole owners. They work hard to gain and maintain the respect of the community and people they serve.
Forrest and Taylor Funeral Home is a community-orientated business who support local organizations such as Lake Simcoe Minor Softball, Georgina Hockey, Sutton Curling Club, The Royal Canadian Legion, The Georgina Food Pantry and Hospice Georgina just to mention a few.
Greg has been a licensed funeral director since 1989. His internship took him to New Liskeard, Ontario. It was there that he met his wife, Carole, a girl from the silver town of Cobalt. Greg has also worked in New Liskeard, Wawa and Haileybury. Looking to head south when a position became available at the Taylor Funeral Home, Greg and Carole moved to Georgina, the place that they now call home for over 25 years. In 2023, Greg made the hard decision to retire and sell the company to the Park Lawn Corporation who intends to continue the longstanding tradition of serving the community with care and compassion.
Since the Taylor Funeral Home began in the late 1880s, we have had the privilege of serving many families, including those of the famous Canadian author Stephen Leacock. We have also seen many considerable changes in the funeral industry. Traditions and terminology are a prime example of this. Funeral directors were referred to as undertakers, caskets were coffins and funeral services were known as wakes, and often conducted in the family home. Times have changed, faces have changed, but we look forward to the opportunity of serving your family, and continuing the tradition that began years ago by James Taylor.
We can create a customized, online memorial for you to share with family and friends. The memorial includes the obituary and any photographs you wish to provide. It will serve as a place for visitors to post condolences, share memories, upload photos, and light candles in honor of your loved one.
We can produce a personal tribute video that can be played at the service and online. Simply provide us with the photographs you want to include and we will transform them into a video celebration of your treasured memories. DVDs or digital files of the video are also available.
We make it easy for friends and family to send flowers to your home or service to honor your loved one. We have partnered with local florists to offer the convenience of ordering directly from the obituary page of our website. You can also use this feature to select the flowers you would like at the service. This is a secure way to choose beautiful arrangements from the privacy and comfort of your home.
We reduce the stress of contacting those who need the details of the service for your loved one. We post the dates and times of the service as part of the online memorial on our website. You can then either share the memorial on your Facebook or Twitter page or copy the details from the site into an email or text. Both options give you the peace of mind that you have provided the necessary information to those who need it.
